Best Buds is a commemorative Jubilee wallpaper, designed by Kate Hawkins. The anthropomorphic buds were inspired by a William Kilburn sketch from 1800. They can be read as flowers, crowns, or even winking eyes that warmly watch over us, while the repetition in the design nods to a lifetime of duty and best behaviour. A little like wallpaper, Queen Elizabeth II is the quiet backdrop to our lives; that consistent, comforting presence. She is there. She has always been there.

About Common Room
Common Room make wallpaper by artists – alongside other homewares – to make high-quality art accessible to the many rather than the few. They commission original designs from contemporary artists and produce an annual archival collection that commemorates the great history of artist wallpapers. Everything they do is underpinned by stories and a desire to make complex ideas simple while still leaving room for the viewer to bring their own meaning. Wallpaper has generally been thought of as background rather than foreground – but not at Common Room. Their wallpapers are designed to challenge and excite. Just like every great artwork.
Their environmental impact as a business is very important. They are committed to responsible design practices and to being as sustainable as possible. All of their products are designed and made here in the UK.

Our Mission
We are committed to providing a space where you can shop for beautiful products that have been made in a way that is sustainable for the planet and kind to the people on it.
We source our products from independent designers mostly in the UK and Europe. We always look for local (UK based) options before we look further afield. We also try to support new and emerging brands and makers. Most of our products are made in small production runs, by artisans or the designer themselves. Where larger manufacturers are involved we ensure that they adhere a fair and transparent supply chain and do not use sweatshops, trafficked, bonded, child or forced labour.
